Programs

Ways we walk alongside young people.

Mentoring is the heart of BrightPath — and around it we build the academic, college, and career support that helps each young person thrive.

Program 01

1:1 Mentoring Match

A carefully matched adult mentor who shows up, week after week, for one young person.

Who it’s for
Young people ages 8–18 across San Diego who would benefit from a consistent, caring adult outside their immediate family.
What happens
Our team thoughtfully matches each mentee with a screened, trained volunteer mentor based on shared interests, goals, and availability. Pairs meet weekly — homework help, a walk, a project, or just time to talk — with ongoing support from a BrightPath match coordinator.

Program 02

After-School Academic Support

Homework help, study skills, and a quiet place to focus after the final bell.

Who it’s for
Elementary and middle-school students who need a steady routine and a hand with coursework after school.
What happens
Small-group tutoring and one-on-one homework help led by volunteers and staff. We focus on reading, math, and the study habits that build confidence — paired with snacks, structure, and encouragement.

Program 03

College & Career Readiness

Demystifying applications, financial aid, and the path beyond high school.

Who it’s for
High-school mentees beginning to think about college, trade school, and what comes next.
What happens
Workshops on applications, FAFSA and scholarships, résumé building, and interview practice — plus campus visits and one-on-one guidance from mentors who have walked the path. First-generation students are especially welcome.

Program 04

Career Exploration & Internships

Real workplaces, real role models, and a first line on a résumé.

Who it’s for
Older teens (typically 15–18) curious about careers and ready for hands-on experience.
What happens
Job-shadow days, career-day panels with local professionals, and short summer internships with partner employers. Mentees build workplace skills, professional networks, and a clearer sense of what is possible.

Program 05

Summer Bridge

Keeping momentum — and matches — strong through the summer months.

Who it’s for
Current mentees of all ages, so growth does not stall when school lets out.
What happens
A summer of enrichment outings, reading and math practice to prevent learning loss, and continued mentor meetups. We keep relationships consistent year-round so progress carries into the next school year.
